Become a Community Scientist and Submit your Wildlife Observations this September
Yes, be a Maine Deer Spy.
Maine Deer Spy continues through September 30, and NatureQuest invites you to explore, observe, and connect with the Maine outdoors by submitting your deer observations.
The Challenge: When you see deer, make note of the number of adults and young, the date, and town. Then use the online forms below to submit your findings.
How you're helping Maine Wildlife: This data collection helps our biologists monitor annual reproduction and contributes to our management decisions. Whether you've been scouting for wildlife for years or are just getting started, you can achieve your goals of exploration and adventure this September while helping Maine's deer populations.
Join any time! Even if you initially think you're not going to participate, if you find deer walking across your yard in the evening or along the side of the road, make sure to count them and fill out an observation form!
If you take photos, don't forget to tag us on social media using #MaineNatureQuest for a chance to be featured on mefishwildlife.com.
Report you deer sightings and help support Maine’s deer management this September! Please report the following:
Location
Date and time
The number of does (adult female deer with no antlers, with or without fawns)
The number of bucks (deer with antlers)
The number of fawns (young deer born this year, with or without a doe(s))
The data that we receive are used to increase confidence in our understanding of whitetail recruitment patterns throughout Maine.
