Multi-Week Class with Richard Parker at NEH Library This Fall
NORTHEAST HARBOR—The Northeast Harbor Library will host a six week class with Richard Parker exploring perspectives on death. Classes will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 am on six consecutive Saturdays beginning on Saturday October 18.
Participants will read Tolstoy’s novella The Death of Ivan Ilyich and a selection of poems by various authors. The six meetings will focus on gaining an understanding of what great writers have said about death, as well as examining participants’ ideas and concerns. There will be some small group discussion time during each class. In addition, Parker will share ideas and questions raised by current thinkers and from the medical realm.
Richard Parker has been teaching literature since 1977. He holds a Doctorate in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. A year-round resident of MDI since 2012, Parker teaches several 6-8 week classes for adults throughout the year on mythology and literature topics.
The class will be held in person only, and there is no charge. Space is limited. Please register in advance by emailing rlparker78@gmail.com.
