MAINE—The snowmobile season is in full swing, and we’d like to remind nonresident riders about Maine’s upcoming Nonresident Free Snowmobile Weekend, taking place March 6–8.
During this weekend, nonresident riders (from another state or province) may operate a snowmobile in Maine without purchasing a Maine registration, provided they have a valid registration from their home state or province. Reciprocity is not required.
If you are a nonresident planning to participate in Free Snowmobile Weekend, we ask that you take a moment to sign up—at no cost—using the Nonresident Open Snowmobile Weekend form. This helps us better understand nonresident participation and allows us to work with Maine Office of Tourism to share helpful Maine snowmobiling information, including safety reminders and trail updates.
Help keep Maine’s snowmobile trails safe and open
More than 85% of Maine’s 13,000 miles of snowmobile trails are located on private land, thanks to the generosity of landowners and forest managers. Riders play an important role in helping keep these trails open—this weekend and for years to come.
You can show your appreciation and support for private landowners by becoming an Outdoor Partner.
