Run, Walk, Wag 5k Returns to Bar Harbor in Memory of Mary Parker
BAR HARBOR—On Saturday, October 4th at 9 AM, runners, walkers, and wagging tails will gather at the Bar Harbor YMCA for the annual Run, Walk, Wag 5k in memory of Mary Parker, proudly sponsored by Bar Harbor Savings & Loan.
All proceeds from the event benefit Island Connections, where Mary Parker worked as Transportation Coordinator for seven years before her passing. For over 25 years, Island Connections has provided free transportation to seniors and people with disabilities on Mount Desert Island.
Originally known as “Running for Rides,” the race was renamed to better reflect the spirit of the event and the variety of participants it welcomes. “We didn’t want anybody to think they needed to ‘run’ for rides to join us,” laughed Executive Director Carissa Tinker. “Most of the folks who join us walk the course, and this is MDI’s only dog-friendly 5k. It’s a great family-friendly event for everyone, and we’re proud to continue celebrating it in Mary’s name.”
The tradition of post-race pizza at Pat’s Pizza also continues, thanks to the team at Pat’s. This year’s race also features a slightly modified course that takes participants along the recently renovated Bar Harbor Inn section of the Shore Path.
Prizes will be given to fastest runners, fastest walker, and fastest dog.
Registration is $25 if registered before race day, and $30 on race day for adults. Youth registration is $15. To register, visit islconnections.org and click on “Events.” For more information, call 207-288-4457 or email director@islconnections.org.
