Sunrise! Our Top Five.
Cool places you can check it out when you're on Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park
Due to Jack the Early Rising Puppy (that is his official name), we’ve been enjoying a lot more sunrises than we used to enjoy.
The positive here is that it’s given us a top five list of awesome places to check out the sunrise when you’re on our island.
CADILLAC MOUNTAIN.
The peak in all its 1,530-foot glory is gorgeous any time of day, but for sunrise? It’s pretty amazing. You can see the ocean. You can see the sun rise over the ocean. It’s gorgeous.
You need a reservation if you drive up yourself and don’t take the Cadillac Mountain shuttle or hike. If you hike, please bring light that is not your cell phone. To get a vehicle reservation from mid-May to mid-October, head to the link.
THE SHORE PATH
This is the go-to place for those of us in town Bar Harbor who don’t have a reservation for Cadillac and our just walking our early rising dogs. It’s mellow and gorgeous. There will likely be dogs.
THE BAR
Not the kind with alcohol. The kind with sand and gravel.
If it is low tide, you can also check out the sunrise over the Porcupine Islands from the Bar Island Trail at the edge off Bridge Street in Bar Harbor proper.
OCEAN DRIVE
Anywhere along this piece of the Park Loop Road gives stunning views of the sun’s rise on the eastern horizon.
SEAWALL
If you’re on the other side of the island, you can check out the sunrise from Seawall Beach’s picnic area which is right across from the campground on Route 102A.
