The Lompoc
Restaurant. Bar. Community Gathering Place.
BAR HARBOR—For decades, one of the coolest places to eat in Bar Harbor has been the Lompoc.
Settled on a side street off Cottage Street, the wooden-sided restaurant is festooned with flowers growing everywhere. A patio offers outdoor seating. The bar offers so many drinks and plaques for patrons lost and still loved.
A giant owl waits outside.
This is a place that welcomes you and if you’re a seafood lover? The spicy dijon mussels is a staple.
It’s also a place for nightlife with locals and visitors often under 30 heading to the dance parties on Fridays and the karaoke on Sunday.
The Kelly sisters have followed the traditions of past owners like James Pike, Patti Savoie, Kristen Klint, and Barbara Maffucci in creating a space that feels like it belongs to the local community while somehow magically including everyone into that community even if they are only here for just one night.
In the 1990s during an election, they had no TV. Someone brought one in.
In the early 2000s, they held their own election for Mayor of Lompoc. There were even debates.
Live bands? Check.
Its own cookbook? Check.
A place that feels like home to many? You better believe it.
The Lompoc is an institution and a homecoming.
