This Week in Acadia Adventures
(And also how we're running the site right now)
Thank you so much for being a subscriber to Acadia Adventures!
While we build up the site, we’re putting up a lot of informational posts, features from our sister publication, the Bar Harbor Story (a newspaper devoted to news for the Mount Desert Island region), and some features.
Because we don’t want to overwhelm you every day as we build, we’ve decided that for the next few weeks at least, we’re going to send you what we’ve posted in this digest form. These are some of those stories from the past week.
We hope that works for you!
If there are any resources, we haven’t included, please let us know! Our goal is to be as helpful as possible and to highlight the cool, amazing, and interesting things in our community.
THE GOOFY VIDEO
We also have gone back to our slightly goofy roots and begun compiling images that we’ve seen throughout the week in the area. We put these up on our YouTube channel that nobody really knows exists.
If you are looking for things to do this week? Head on over here:
THE ARTICLES FROM THIS WEEK:
ACADIA ADVENTURES EXCLUSIVES . . .
The Big Spots in Acadia National Park That Aren't Trails
People who don’t live here love to make itineraries about what to do when you are here and we get it. It gives people clicks for their content.
The Schooner Head Trail
It rises about 347 feet, but you mostly don’t notice that until the beginning or the end.
What To Do on a Rainy Day on MDI?
Don’t let a little rain wash away your vacation plans. Mount Desert Island is just as magical under gray skies as it is in the sun—and sometimes even more so. Whether you’re here for a day or a week, there are plenty of indoor adventures and cozy spots to explore while the weather sorts itself out.
Peekytoe Provisions Is Back—Bigger, Better, Still Themselves
BAR HARBOR—Just two years ago, Peekytoe Provisions, a squat rectangular restaurant and fish market, hovered above Main Street with a sort of stepped-back authority. Customers climbed wooden steps to a hostess stand or through the door into the fish shop and restaurant.

"Science-ing” and Smiles:
BAR HARBOR—Scientists at the MDI Biological Laboratory mingled with children on the lawn of its Hulls Cove campus this week. They laughed, peered into microscopes, examined the properties of light, and touched rainbows. They also ate a bit of ice cream.
